God dammit, do not put my name in the same sentence as WU-TANG TAT. That's out of the way.
Now, onto the matters at hand. We'll start with Common first. My biggest problem with your "good beat" argument is that COMMON DOES NOT WRITE HIS BEATS. Like almost every hip-hop artist today, they bring in a producer to do that. Go to Wikipedia. Look up Common. Look up each album and find me a track he produced. Oh wait, 2005s Be? Who produced that? KANYE? I bet you like Kanye. Not a good beat by America's favorite black activist/self-proclaimed savior? Come on. There's a reason the dude is at the top.
After typing this, I will add the disclaimer that I'm not dissin' at all. Daddy is merely having fun.
Alright, now Wu-Tang. First off, Wu-Tang started as a way to get all of the MCs known so they could all branch off and start their own solo careers. Why do you think there are 9 dudes in it? Why do you think that 36 Chambers will never compare to the solo shit they did? Liquid Swords, Tical, Return to the 36 Chambers, Ironman? They all blow the clan shit out of the water. So, what makes Wu-Tang so great? Not Redman, I can tell you that. I'll agree the "did it first" argument is weak. Lot's of people "did it first". Gloria Estefan merged traditional Latin music with dance first. Speaking of which, Miami Sound Machine is light years better than Redman. Just saying. Wu-Tang did define the east coast sound. That is nothing to be taken lightly. It doesn't automatically mean that people have to cream their pants all over them. To me, that means that in terms of production, RZA put down a series of beats behind classic soul samples that were the foundation of that style. On the other side of the country, Dre was doing G-funk and synth-ing the shit out of everything. Now, if you want to base your appreciation of a hip-hop album on beats, then do not even try to tell me that "Ain't Nuthin' but a G-Thang" doesn't feature one of the most obnoxious synth sounds of all time. That song is an example of great lyricism, shitty production. And Dre should have never stepped in front of a mic.
Shit, where was I? Westside Connection? Cube lost it after AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted and you know it. You may as well be into Body Count. Yeah, Ice-T is cool to like, right? Especially Cop Killa. That's just novelty shit. Like the Geto Boys, 2 Live Crew, ICP etc. But not Twiztid. They're legit.
God, this is stupid. I'm going to publish it still. I think I made some decent points. How about I end with Wu-Tang rules, Common's pretty good, and east coast kills it over west coast. But honestly, I don't even need to talk about any of this. Illmatic and Ready to Die are the only hip hop albums that matter. All the other shit can get fucked.
In fact, hip hop can get fucked. I'm going to listen to Punk in Drublic.

Psh all you needed to write was that last sentence and you would've had me sold. Hip-hop is for babies. NoFX is for daddies.
what about canada.
snow, son
illmatic.
gaaaaaaayyyyyyy, and werewolfhands comment too
Wu Tang is better than fucking Nas.
also, do you think Redman is in Wu Tang? cuz he ain't
Anon: fail.
Zack, don't even try and step to me with hip hop. I know my shit. Kyle's the one who improperly placed Redman in the Clan.
Illmatic is number 2. Ready to Die is number 1. Wu Tang doesn't even come close.
ok cool i thought you probably knew Redman wasnt in WU but i was just checking. i am not going to argue music opinions because that is pointless. if you think Illmatic is better than whatever that's fine. It is a great album. But Nas as a whole does not come CLOSE to Wu Tang. it's really the only good album he has...that i know of anyway.
Dude, waaaay before Illmatic there was Sugarhill Gang. They started it. Since then hip-hop has died a slow death, but it had its golden age. I can't say that Nas was such an integral part of it though.
